Did Your DS Get Wet?

4/12/12
A common mistake typically occurring completely by accident, your drink spills, it gets dropped in the toilet or another form of water. You think your DS, DS Lite, DSi, DSi XL or 3DS is completely ruined, but it may not be. Rice is not the best option to dry out your system due to lack of air flow. Also DO NOT put your system in the oven because heat can further damage your your system.

Follow these simple steps to dry out your system
  • DO NOT TURN ON THE SYSTEM
  • Take out the battery and dry the battery and battery compartment and leave open
  • Gently shake the system from all angles to shake any excess water from the system and wipe that away.
  • Fold the system into an A shape or like a tent and place in front of air source (fan, bottom of refrigerator, hair dryer set on cold). Move around periodically to dry at all angles over a 48 hour period.

If you feel comfortable enough to open the shell and dry it out more thoroughly that way, you can also do that and follow the previous steps.
I would only recommend this if you are handy with small electronics.

Here is a link to replace the shell which will show you how to open the system to help dry it out.

The key is to dry the system as quickly as possible to prevent corrosion. After several days of drying before you try to turn it on. You want to wait to prevent any further damage to fuses, etc.

After following these steps and your system is not working properly, sometimes it still can be repaired. All you have to do is send it to us and let us take a look at it. We can even replace motherboards if necessary, but we will not know this until we have it in hand and can diagnose it properly.
